Spam detection winows2003

I am using a dedicated server using windows2003

I host a few websites on the server and am informed it is possible to check outgoing email records to see if any of these websites may be unknowingly sending out spam emails.

Many thanks

If you have a fixed IP Address, then you can visit www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx or www.blacklistalert.org to check your IP Address to see if you are listed on any IP Address blacklists, which might indicate you are sending out spam.

Thanks alanhardisty

I found out recently where I could see the blacklists.

I was told this morning that I should be able to see on the server where the spam emails may be coming from, i.e. which domain was sending them

Who told you that?  Ask them for specifics.

You may have logs showing information - but unless they are enabled, then you won't know.

Do you have an email program / software installed on the server?  Do they log what goes out?

This is  a Fasthost server and it was told to me by a sales person.

I will ask their support the same question

No problems - don't forget Sales people sometimes will tell you anything you want to hear which might be vastly different from the truth.

I once went to buy a TV and was comparing two different models and a Sales Assistant asked if I needed help.  I asked him what the difference between the two TV's was bearing in mind the price was about £300 different.  He advised me that one was 50Hz and the other 100Hz - I then looked at the back of the TV's and saw 50Hz labelled on both TV's - so I made up my own mind!!

Hello again
Support has come back to me with this message

Further to recent communication - our IT Ops team can confirm that the mail logs in the D drive of your server would yield any spam information. If you can reply with Administrator password I can find out exactly where these logs exist.

I would like to change the password temporarily but cannot see where to carry this out.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks for all the help.
As usual the method was not quite as the pages indicate but after a bit of poking around I found the method and succeeded changing the password.

Now its up to fasthosts to supply that info hope they do.
Once again thanks for your support

You are welcome - thanks for the points.

Sorry I couldn't give you 100% accurate info - I'm not familiar with the hosted servers that they offer (yet), despite having a reseller account with them!!

Best wishes

Alan
