Setting up intranet

We would like to have a simple intranet for our office. There are about 50 employees in our office and we just thought it would be nice if people can view/download fliers/catalog information from a web browser instead of sending those through email.

We have Windows 2003 R2 and I just would like to know the very first step to set this up. First I guess how to configure the server so the user can just put an address instead of IP address to bring up a web page

if it is only meant for file sharing, a shared drive would do?

If you really want an intranet, then a share point server or some website needs to be developed...

DNS entry will help identifying server by name instead of IP

I would have to agree Windows SharePoint Services is a free service you can download and install on your server which allows you to customize your website internall and externally. Allow for workspaces and document storage

sharepoint services needs an advanced user to configure.  i dont think it's easy for the requester to setup  & configure sharepoint services.

That's why i suggest file sharing on a network folder.

We are using Lotus Domino and Lotus Notes as our email and tracking system client which I hope will change in the future so at this point I'm not sure if we can even use Share Point to a good use. Anyway I downloaded it and does anyone has a good source if I want to learn what Share Point capable to do so I can get a better idea about what it is.

@rpartington: Thank you for the detailed instruction, I will try that for sure

If you already have lotus domino setup, then eteamrooms are best way to enable your requirement

@kishoreb123:
What do you mean by setting up eteamrooms if I have Domino already set up?
