How to get iPod songs from iPod to rebuilt Win 7 computer with latest iTuens

I had a laptop hard drive crash and replaced with new one and rebuilt with Widows 7 Home Prem 32 bit.  I installed latest iTunes (10.2.2) and now want to sync the iPod Classic with many songs on it (over 1,000).

My question is:

How do I setup the iTunes so the iPod will sync. all it's song's to the rebuilt PC iTunes library.  If this is not done correctly, I believe the iTunes empty library will erase all the songs on the iPod.
