Does Windows NT 4 support IDE SSD Drives?
Hi,

I have a Strippit CNC machine running Windows NT 4 and I want to replace the hard drive in it with a 4GB or 8GB PATA/IDE SSD drive. Any problems I will encounter?

Here is the specific drive I want to use:

Thanks!

Should work fine.
But before you do anything with it that involves attaching that drive to a Windows machine with Windows 2000 or later on it (for imaging or whatever), VERIFY THE SERVICE PACK LEVEL! Windows 2000 or later will convert any NTFS drive with an earlier versions of NTFS to NTFS5, without warning or any further ado, and NT4 can only read NTFS5 with SP4 or later installed. When you say replace, wouldnt you be removing the Windows NT4 Operating Systems HardDrive?
By this i mean you remove the harddrive which has the operating system on it and replacing that harddrive with a SSD... there by removing NT4?

So:

1. youll lose the NT4 Operating system
2. yes itll fit but you need to supply the rest of the machines specs so we can see if its compatible
3. from the link you showed me only describes the SSD specs, so that isnt enough info for us to help you

Reading that again, it's not as obvious as it should be; with "attaching that drive" I meant of course the old one with your current NT4 installation.

I will be replacing the current IDE hard drive with the SSD and reinstalling Windows NT 4 from a ghost image. If Windows NT just recognizes the SSD as a normal hard drive I should be all set.

Okay, reinstalling it, right now you need to unplugg the old HDD put in the SSD and look to see if if picks it up in BIOS BOOT, if it does then you should have any problems unless the drive requires some sort of drivers to be loaded into NT4 in order for NT4 to pick up the MBR from the drive...

Transcend support:
DOMs are seen by the computer the same as any other hard drive, so they will be recognized regardless of OS.  So yes, this will work with Windows-NT.

So looks like I am set to try this tomorrow when the drive will be delivered.
