How can I fix a recovered & damaged PST file?

My asistant format and reinstall windows in one laptop and he didn't backup the PST for outlook, so we run Recuva and GetDataBack and finally we recover one PST but it doesn't works so, if I try to fix it with the scanpst.exe it says it can't recognize the file so, 2 questions:

1.- There is something better than Recuva and GetDataBack to recover files after a windows reinstall?
2.- Which other tool may I use instead of scanpst.exe to fix the PST recovered?

Thanks!

You will have to use a paid for bit of software.
You will get plenty of recommendations, but of course it all depends on price. Try the ones that allow you too try them first and let you know if they can actually recover any data from the pst before you purchase. They should display a small number of emails that you recognise, which of course lets you know that that piece of software will actually recover everything as opposed to taking pot look on a pst recovery tool that charges from the outset with no trial and you then find it simply tells you that your pst is irrecoverable after you have paid out.
