Old IBM T43 protected with fingerprint

Hi,

A friend of mine got an old laptop IBM T43 in school liquidation, but the computer came protected with password and fingerprint.
She said the computer boots, pass windows logo and then prompts for password and fingerprint.
I thought the fingerprint protection was at BIOS level, but apparently is not.

Well, my question is, if I will be able to use the hard disk while booting from an WinXP installation disk to perform a full format&reinstall, or... will the fingerprint protection cause me some trouble.... I don't know what kind of protection that thing provides.

Good to know because there are no refunds on that sell! :)
She will get me the laptop tomorrow... but I think I will try to hack the password first with one of those utilities around there, there's nothing to lose.

if its a windows password, i know how to hack xp if xp is the software.  If this is your laptop of course, this will be ethical hacking without the use of a password utility.  BTW, getting a password utility for windows is very expensive and hard to find.  The only place I knew to get one was from the IT department at a university I worked at.  Though we were good friends and he gave me admin passwords (i was a programmer) to fix my own things which he shouldn't have, he would not let me hold that CD.  He said it was worth like $10000 +.   If he had let me hold it, I probably would have copied it (lol).  So what I'm getting at is its hard to find a Windows hacking utility.
