Upgrade Goldmine CE from 7.0 to 7.6 and move to new box

I'm in the process of planning an upgrade of Goldmine CE 7.0 to 7.6 and I would like some input on a few things.

Currently the Goldmine database is installed on MS SQL 2000 SP4 on a server running Win Server 2003 R2.
I have a new server which will be replacing the one mentioned above.  The new box will be running Server 2008 and MS SQL 2008.

What is the best way to upgrade Goldmine and move it from the old box to the new one?

1) Should I run the new Goldmine 7.6 installer on the old 2003 box and let it do its upgrade steps and when that is complete just copy the database files to the new server?

2) Do a fresh install of Goldmine 7.6 on the new box and then somehow move the goldmine data from the old box to the new one?

Thanks

Let me confirm I fully understand what you said.  You are suggesting that:

1) Do a DB backup on the old box and then restore the DB on the new box
2) Copy the whole Goldmine folder from old box to new box
3) Change gm.ini and dbalias.ini to point to new box
4) Launch GM 7.6 installer to perform upgrade (will this run ok, does it check for registry keys to see if GM is installed or does it just check the folder that you specify in the wizard?)
5) Update clients
You will need to make sure goldmine runs on new box first

No registry items to worry about. Just select the goldmine folder when running the new installer
You will need to make sure goldmine runs on new box first

Does that mean I will need to run the GM 7.0 installer on the new box after moving the DB or just start the gmw7.exe after making changes to the .ini files?
No need to run installer. Goldmine does not need to be installed
