Dell Optiplex 740, Samsung 971p and DVI to VGA adapter problem
I have a Dell Optiplex 740 with a built in VGA Geforce 6150 LE. A Samsung SyncMaster 971P monitor with a DVI cable and a DVI to VGA adapter that I am trying to get working.
The video card works fine with a VGA monitor, the Samsung monitor works fine on another computer and the adapter works with another hardware setup by using two adapters and then plugging it into a DVI video card.
Is there a problem with the hardware I am trying to put together or is there a way to get this working? Using the adapter on the computer you get no screen, the monitor automatically adjusts from digital to analog but nothing ever comes up on the screen as far as I know there is no way to go to a menu and force the monitor to analog, I am helping someone out with this and don't have first hand experience with it.
Is there something in the BIOS that needs to be changed so it will work with the adapter or maybe we just got the wrong adapter for the job.
Samsung Syncmaster 971p

DVI (F) to VGA (M) Adapter
Thanks for your help.

Hmm, I didn't think about that. I am checking now to see if it is I or D.
pjam:,
I just noticed the working in the description but the plugs fit fine, not sure but I would think it would work either way unless it is a DVI-D then that is most likely the problem.

Ah, looks like he was using a DVI-D cable, he found a second cable hidden away that came with the monitor that goes from DVI to VGA, no adapter needed, and now it works fine.
Thanks for the help.
