Suggestions/recommendations for moving XP applications on HDD to Windows 7 on SSD

I am really getting the urge to get a Solid State Drive (SSD) for my laptop which currently has Windows XP installed.
I'm considering moving to Windows 7 at the same time.  However, I dread the thought of reinstalling all of the applications that I currently have installed on my XP system

Who has suggestions for reasonable, and reliable ways to move installed applications from a Windows XP HDD system to a new Windows 7 SSD?

> Laplink PCMover is supposed to be a good tool to move applications

I haven't talked with anyone who has real experience with using Laplink.  I have seen a few references, like yours, but it is difficult to know how successful one is likely to be with it without actually having had the chance to use it. ;-(

I gave the most points to thinkpads_user and hanccocka for the having provided "actual experiences".
