E-mail attachment

Recently I can no longer open an e-mail attachment directly from an e-mail in Outlook 2007. I can't open Excel, Word or PDF's attachments. It has been working fine but now it says unknown file type even though it has the correct file extension. It gives me the option to find, save or cancel. If I save it to my hard drive It then opens with the correct program.

Try to turn previewers on as described on the bottom of this page: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/preview-attachments-HA010236673.aspx#BM3
Does a PDF show a PDF file icon? And Word a Word icon?

You could try configuring the standard file type for these files.

1. Control Panel
2. Default Program's.
3. Set your default problems. Or Set Program Access and Computer Defaults.

I tried both of these and they didn't work. I don't belive they are showing the proper logo for either Adobe or word so could they have changed whne I received the e-mail. I do have one document that opens but now it is opening in wordpad instead of the Microsoft Word program

Have you tried repairing the Office applications? In Excel 2007, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options. In the Navigation Pane, click Resources. Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.

Zorvek, Itried that it it didn't help. It seems wired that both Adobe and microsoft office programs don't work anymore. Could it be something with outlook?
Yes, Outlook can be buggered. It's the weakest and most unstable application in the Office suite.

Try these things:

Try clearing the Outlook temp files folder (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817878).

Turn off any virus scanners.

Disable the Google Desktop add-in if you are running it.

Turn off other add-ins running in Outlook.

Try running Outlook in safe mode.

This didn't work, anything else tp try

I wasn't getting any more responses to try so I'm closing this. I was able to get some links working today but others still require me to save to my documents before trying to open them
