configuration for voip
very new to voip, need assistance for understanding for an office to implement voip.
currently using Linksys ADSL gatewary router, this acts as DHCP, in the network range 192.168.1.x, Has 2 switches not supporting VLANs.
VOIP vendor suggested using HP procurve L2 switch (2 of them). they will configure 2 VLANs, one for data, one for voice on the HP switches. they suggested using their PABX as DHCP.
please advise
- if we still want to use back our current router as DHCP, what are the configuration that we need to do such that the voip and data works?
- is it advisable to use their PABX acting as DHCP?
- they suggested to have VPN access to troubleshoot, is this advisable and common for voip vendors to have this access?

There isn't any technical reason why the old DHCP server cannot stay.
You will need to check if you can add scope option 191 for VLAN Autodiscovery.
VPN access to vendors for remote support is common practice.
You define the security so just make sure you only give them the permissions that they need.
