Building a Server
I am looking into building my own server, I think it should work out cheaper than buying directly from dell.I have developed a multi-threaded application to complete a very large project. So I am looking to build a server with as many cores as possible. I am thinking about getting 4 or 5 processors(AMD Opteron 6172 12-Core Magny-Cours 2.1GHz Processor without Fan) depending on number of sockets on the motherboard.I can get a good deal on these processors so that is why i think it should work out cheaper than just ordering from dell. I am living in ireland, but can get the processors shipped to me. i have never built a pc before, so I am looking for the easiest way to do it.
Im thinking I'll need 16GB of Ram
4TB of disc space
Can anyone recommend an easy way to to this?
what motherboard should i get?
Is there a kit that I can buy which has the bare bones of what I need, and I can just add processors, harddrives, ram etc?
links to useful info on where to buy components etc woould be much appreciated
also, I have windowss server 2003(32 bit), but will I need to buy a 64 bit version of windows server?

Its not going to be a mission critical server, just a workhorse really, the project invoves ocnverting 100s of thousands of pdfs into another format.
the savings are considerable on the processors. Im thinking maybe I will ask dell to give me another quote without the processors, and make sure the amd processors i found for cheaper are compatable etc. and just go from there, what do you guys think?
