How to Migrate from SBS 2003 domain to server 2008 domain

Hi, I have a server running SBS 2003. We were not using the Exchange functionality of it just the A/D side of it. I want to buy a new server and put Server 2008 on it and retire the SBS. I recall trying to do this a few years ago with Server 2003 by adding the Server 2003 server to the SBS 2003 domain as a dc and it would not let me. (without the purchase of some expensive migration software)

With Server 2008 can I add it to the SBS 2003 domain as a DC and then demote the SBS or take it off line? What i want to avoid it taking 10 computers and removing them from the 2003 A/D and adding them back to the 2008 A/D
