Remote users are being prompted for credentials to open an Office document
We have two sites, one in Arizona and one in North Carolina. Each has its own Lan and domain controller. We are using SharePoint 2007 for our intranet which is located on a server in AZ. We are not having any issues with users in AZ, but users in NC are being prompted for credentials repeatedly when attempting to open any office document from SharePoint. PDF and other documents are fine. Not sure if it has to do with line speed, domain controllers, or who knows what. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This is a common issue and will require some minor registry changes on the desktop.

The configuration is as follows:
single domain with a 192.168.1.~ in NC and 192.168.2.~ in AZ. Each location has a domain controller and we are connected through a vpn tunnel using Linksys RV082's at each end. AD is replicating. Something else is, when we connect to the domain in NC and get a .1 address and try to download an office file from our SharePoint site, we get the username and password box over and over. When I use a Windows VPN connection to AZ, and get a .2 address on the PPP adapter, the file opens just fine.

thinkin out loud... SharePoint knows where the pdf is (in AZ), sitting on a .2 network. The user in NC (on .1 network) cannot get to it with it's permissions. The answer is going to be in MS SharePoint (delivering permissions).

pdf files open fine - it's only happening on office files
Please note that if you are using Office 2010.
there is a step 2 from the MS KB article. (another registry modification)
did you perform both?

i had missed step 2, however i went back and did step 2 and then checked them, rebooted, and it doesn't work. Another thing i found, if you hover over the file, the line gets highlighted and a down arrow shows up on the right side. if you click the down arrow, go down to send to, and click on download a copy, it opens up, even when clicking on the file does not work. GGrrrrr. Thanks for any help.
