Arcmail Defender Email Archiving Appliance **STAY AWAY**
I am not sure if anyone is looking for an Email Archiving Appliance, but stay away from Arcmail. I have had their appliance for a few years and it started out great. The appliance is still OK, well I mean the web based interface is OK but the hardware is substandard. The big thing is their support is terrible. Emails go unanswered, sitting on hold for 30 minutes, no 24 hour support, no updates AT ALL. Twice in 4 years the raid array has just woken up and said. "I think I am going to die today". The first time, they sent me a new unit ,(took two days) and I had to rebuild it from backups. OK, I am fine with that, it happens.
The second time I was not fine with that at all. And to rub salt in the wounds, they had me ship the unit to them instead of sending me a new unit. So what could have been a 2 day outage is now three weeks. I have tens of thousands of emails journaled into a temp email account until I can get the unit back. Did I mention the 4 or 5 hard drives that have failed with the unit. Sure I have a hot spare, but still how many appliances/servers have that many drives fail. I have a Clarion SAN that has never had a drive fail in over 5 years. OK, I am done my rant. Thanks for listening!

UPDATE...
I received a new unit last week and started doing restores and a week later the restores are still running. I do have to say the incremental restores went by really quick, it is the full backup/restore that is taking so long. I do have to give the benefit of the doubt, it is a big backup, a whopping 1 TB (actually more like 700 GB, I am being generous). Can you believe that? I week to restore a TB worth of data. And no communication, no updates and when I call you know what they tell me? "It is still running." No percent, no ETA just "It is still running." If anyone knows of a list of horrible vendors, please let me know. Arcmail and Waytek should be on that list.
