I Am Looking For A Preferably Free Personalized Domain Name Registration For E-Mail Use ONLY?

Hello. I have a question...

Is there a way to get your own domain for free (if you do NOT have your own website (signed up with a web host)) out in there in cyberspace somewhere or am I just dreaming and it will HAVE TO COST me??? I do not want to sound like a cheapskate, but I know when it comes to free licenses for programs out there, I will take them up on their free program offers if I use and like the program a lot accomplanied with a small donation.

Objective: To have my own domain of my choosing by creating my username@domain for personalized e-mail usage ONLY WITHOUT a website affiliation.

If you know of any, please let me know and any additional information you can provide me. If you ONLY KNOW of PAID domain, please provide them as well. Any details you can provide will help me. If you have had any personal experiences, please let me know.

Please reply.

Thank you!

Oh yeah, I would also recommend that before you decide to sign up with something, ask around first (like here or wherever else you may be hanging out) about the prospect.  There's a lot of potentially scammy stuff out there, and someone with experience can cut thru the bs and tell you if its legit and/or ok for your needs.

Just some 2-sense there.

twohawks,

Very true that is exactly why I do not recommend trying to get "free" as you almost always pay somewhere along the lines...

However if a free domain is what is needed then *.TK can is an open space.

Okay, I knew there was a common one I've seen recommended, finally found it... its doteasy, you may wish to check them out, they have a fairly good reputation and been around a long time.

That tk thing cracked me up, Nummmnut!  I am not sure how RegulaOne is going to setup an email account with that though, I gave up looking.  Is it in there?

edsager, those are some intersting things you posted there. I think those other offerings are still going to cost more than doteasy.  At DotEasy RegulaOne can register a domain with a fairly reputable company, and get free email and even free webhosting.  Not even 50cents a month (which I admit, that's pretty low price, but still is not free ;^)

I must be trippin... I do not know if this is legit (appears so), but I cannot help but post it... this semi-popular blogger, MuthuKumar, posted in April a howto obtain a .co.cc domain name for free... one that supports Cname, A, MX and NS records, (I checked it out, its still there) and then how to setup free email with that.

Now that's totally free.

He is still using Google apps (which was common until it went to business class), but its with a twist, so you are not paying the new fee associated with that once-free service (hence why I did not post it to begin with).

Here is the link:

I figured that aught to be included here.

www.doteasy.com looks quite inexpensive, but registering a domain there will still cost at least $6.93 for the first year.

TANSTAAFL.

I remember the early days of the Internet when a majority of stuff was free. What a time!

@ all that have responded:

Hello. First, nice to meet you all! Wow! Where do I start?!?!? Lots of responses and choices! Thank you! I have decided to return here now because even though there are several responses, no one has replied in the last few days.

On with the "critique" so to speak... The advice you have provided me is invaluable with some good common sense -- basically, you get what you pay for! "Free" has its limitations! TRUE!!!

Now, with the choices you have provided me:

To "truly" evaluate your choices of services, I would have to leave this thread open for weeks if not months to provide a "fair" assessment and award the "Accepted Solution" and "Assisted Solution(s)"! ...and I know I cannot do that here on EE!!! I see your links and choices you have provided are NOT clear cut and simple to justify (just like life)! A quick overview of each service could be used for evaluations, but unexplained uncertainties will result. For example, there are hidden or unwritten detailed terms not disclosed that can make an unfavorable difference that must be experienced before a decision can be made, or one service may offer "x" while another service may offer "y" and you have no justification based on experience to which choice is better than the other, etc..

Therefore, I will award all members only once an even amount of points for their replies to sources. This seems the fairest method. In terms of the coveted "Accepted Solution" title that EE requires to provide for each thread, I am going to look at all the choices since that is what I am looking for and provide the award from a overview standpoint. I see one of them posted by edsager called opensrs really impressed me the most, but again no guarantee that is the best for me as I said in the last paragraph. So edsager will get the "Accepted Solution". The rest will get the "Assisted Solution".

Let the record stand for this thread/question that the awards are decided on superficial terms and not true long-term evaluations!

Again, thank you all for your replies!
