XP Offline files with DFS

We use redirection of My Documents to the users directory on the network as well as offline files for the redirected folder.  I found an issue with Windows Server 2008 R2 with XP clients (with LAN and wireless) that on occasion when the users would synchronize their offline files, they would get prompted for authentication.  When the user enters their credentials it does not accept them.

The error the user receives is "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed".

The workaround I found was to turn off wireless and then restart the computer, then it would synchronize.  However in some cases this does not fix the problem and an additional reboot is required.

Currently I am in the process of installing every Windows update, but I believe the problem may be elsewhere.

Thanks

Does this occur after a Password change by any chance?

start>run>"control keymgr.dll"

Anything stored for the domain?

Any Offline Files errors in the Event Viewer>Application Log, source "Offline Files"?

This started happening immediately after moving the users shares to the new server using DFS.  No stored credentials whatsoever.  I did find errors in the event log...

Event ID: 5
A portion of the Offline Files cache has become corrupted.  Restart the computer to clean up the cache.

This might explain why the user had to reboot twice last time this happened.  There are about 3-4 instances of this in the log file, but I cannot be sure they all correlate with the problem.

Rebooting doesnt work though.....

Not to clear the cache.....

Chances are that the synch is erroring on the OLD locations, with the Denial Messages perhaps?

Think this post could serve as a reference. Remember, do NOT reinitialize the CSC until you are sure all LOCAL data is synched to the server, or extracted....

Workstation tries to synch offline files with old server which is offline.

If the data ooks safe, run those reg commands, and reboot, and allow the synch to rebuild....

The Offline File Cache was reinitialized after the move to the new server in order to remove the reference to the old server.  And then the files were made available offline again.  I should note this users offline files are ~25gb.  In addition I have changed the DNS server on the wireless adapter to manual, even though the adapter had the correct settings, and that will fix the problem as well.  I also have tried IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS with no luck.

Here is the error from the event log.

"The Offline File Cache was reinitialized after the move to the new server in order to remove the reference to the old server. "

FYI, that doesnt remove the references to the old server..... If you reference the reg add commands in teh link I posted, you will see which keys hold that information.

On the files that are denied access, if you navigate to them in the Offline Files folder, can you determine what path (old vs. new) they are on?

In XP when you hold CTRL-SHIFT and click on delete files, it prompts for re-iniatializaion.  I have used this to remove the old server from mobsync without any problems on multiple computers.

However you are right, the reg keys are there referencing the old server.  But mobsync seems to ignore them.  Unfortunately I doubt the user will let me redo his offline files.

I would have to wait until the problem happens again, this is an intermittent problem, only when wireless is on.

I would remove those keys at least, if the source paths in the Offline Files folder turn out to be all the new server....

Why wont they let you redo the Offline Files?

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
