UAC Whitelist Issues

The issue is that APC PowerChute Personal 3.0 is requesting a UAC prompt during startup/logon. I contacted APC and they provided this as a workaround (http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11148), which is unacceptable because it completely disables UAC.

I have executed the workaround listed here: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26314842/UAC-Whilelist.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+10+30+7+uac+whitelist+window&anchorAnswerId=33162648#a33162648, however in the task scheduler it says its already running (0x8004131F).

Not sure what I need to do next in order to make this work.

Environment:
Win 7 Pro, SP1
APC PowerChute Personal 3.0

I am running APC (APC_pcbesetup_8.0.0) on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 machine and it does not complain with a UAC prompt when the machine starts. The service is running happily (I checked to make sure the startup was correct). My userid for the desktop in question is a member of the administrators group, but UAC is enabled.

Can you try a newer version?   ... Thinkpads_User

Hi thinkpads_user! Thanks for the quick response!

I forgot to mention this machine is 64-bit too. APC PowerChute Personal 3.0 is the newest version. I originally installed from the new APC unit's included CD. Then later uninstalled it and downloaded straight from APC website. No difference - same version. You may be referring to PowerChute Business edition running on your machine?
Yes, according to my emails wiith APC, it the Business Edition. The version I got from the CD was advanced a bit from what I was using, but would not play well on my machine because I use VMware. APC supplied me with 8.0.0 (It could be a different APC UPS - mine is a 750XL). They sent me a link to 8.0.0 and that is working fine.

I don't know if you can use that version or not?   ... Thinkpads_User
I can't, your unit is most likely a SmartUPS (business device w/more functionality/capabilities), which requires PowerChute *Business* edition software. This client's unit here is a BackUPS (home device w/basic functionality/capabilities), which requires PowerChute *Personal* edition software. The installations and software profiles are drastically different between the two.

Do you have any ideas on how to whitelist a program in UAC?
FYI: 8.0.0 is a much older version (maybe more compatible?), which is probably why they gave you that instead of their current release 9.0.1. The business app is actually 3 installations of a Console, Server, and the Agent. If you are using smartUPS in a standalone environment you can install all three (in a specific order) on one machine. Traditionally, it’s made for a client/server environment so you can monitor all your SmartUPS devices in one console.

Throwing this out there in support of previous comment (not looking for assist)

We use the full versions though, and our users can do anything that requires elevation, as a limited user based on rules created. Course, we are still on XP, but the concept is the same.....
I was looking for some workaround that is more native. Is there not such a solution with Scheduled tasks...I just thought I was not setting up the task properly?

For this instance this is for one app in a standalone environment.

If all else fails I will try Powerbroker.
My post (#36168768) outlined ways to solve this problem and diverseit said Power Broker would be tried. I suggest accepting answer #36168768  .... Thinkpads_User
@ALL: my apologies, I had thought i updated this question. “I had not been able to gain access to this machine to perform the solutions for several days now” was the comment I was supposed to have posted but evidently failed to.

@thinkpads_user: http://www.itknowledge24.com/ - as you said did not work as the user needs to have unbridled access without any prompts.
Powerbroker seems go thus far – I have it installed but need some assistance in setting up a rule.

P.S. I have this machine for the rest of the day. Thanks.
Unfortunately, I am not yet proficient in Power Broker as I was delayed in setting it up at a client.

So let us know your question more specifically, and, please to avail yourself of Powerbroker support. I am sure they will assist you also. ... Thinkpads_User
@thinkpads_user: I figured it out. Thanks for the solution! It works great.
PowerBroker Free was the solution. Created 1 rule for APCsystray.exe and tested it - works perfectly. You create the rule in GPEDIT under User Configuration >> PowerBroker. Thanks again.
@diverseit - Thank you!  I was pleased to help; thanks for the update; and I will be getting to it myself (or with a colleague) shortly.  ... Thinkpads_User
