The correct way to do this is use the scripts Oracle provides: &nbsp;dbstart and dbshut.<br />
<br />
If you properly installed Oracle and ran root.sh, it should have set everything up for you. &nbsp;It should create the necessary links in the rc.d folders to start up and shut down Oracle properly.<br />
