2008 R2 domain controller in windows 2008 forest?

Hi,

I got a domain with about 5 subdomains with two 2008 STD domain controller in each subdomain, and about 30 member servers.

Now i need one more subdomain and i was thinking to install a 2008 R2 domain controller, when i run dcpromo it tells me to run forestpreparations before i continue.

Does anyone know´s any issues with this upgrade?

2008 is not the same as 2008 R2.  They are different versions of Windows.  You should be able to add a 2008 R2 DC without significant issues - I would recommend viewing this link on the subject:

No issues. Just run adprep /forestprep or adprep32 /forestprep
You should take binaries from 2008R2 DVD and run them on existing DC. adprep32 should be used if your exisitng DC has 32bit OS.

@gtworek
and domainprep isn't needed?  And on ANY DC?

This is why I posted a link with details and a description.  You cannot run just those commands - they must be run on the correct DC and you must prepare the domain as well.

No. Author is preparing forest and not existing domain because he is creating the new one.

Then my apologies... I missed that... in which case, I see nothing incorrect about your post.
