Unity is a great tool for making iOS apps. It deploys to iOS, Android, Mac, PC, and Web from the same project, which expands your options. You can also use javascript or C# instead of Obj-C which is great for beginners, and it uses a graphical development environment, so it's easy to see your art and quickly make changes. It's used mostly for games, but works for non-gaming apps as well. The tool is free and on Mac and PC, but the iPhone version is $400, and while you need a Mac to actually build to an iPhone, you can do most of the development on a PC and test out touch and accelerometer input by using your phone as a remote for the Unity editor.

design3 has about 40 hours of Unity video training, and another 60 on other game development tools like Maya and 3dsMax that help you make 3D art. Many are free, full access is $20/mo.

The iPhone is a smartphone made by Apple Inc. It and the iPad, along with several other mobile devices from Apple, run on the iOS operating system, which has its own topic, as does the iPad for device-specific questions. Native iOS applications are written in Objective-C or in Swift using the Cocoa Touch frameworks or HTML5 compiled with the help of a package manager such as Adobe PhoneGap; a common IDE is Xcode.
