UPS. Change its 5 A/h Lead Acid Battery with a bigger Ni-Cd 80A/h battery. Possible?
I have one of those small home APC, UPS units that takes a low capacity lead acid battery.
Is it safe to remove the battery and hardwire the unit to a bigger 80A/h car Ni-Cd battery so it keeps the system switched on for some hours ?
Thanks

the charging process is different for these batteries so you may have issues even if the voltage is the same
Ni-CD batteries have "memory" issues and are not designed for deep charge-discharge cycles, which is why they dont use them in cars. It will work, but the life of the battery will be less than a few months.

Isn't there also the possibility of the battery exploding?
