Defining VLANs where to do it
Hello All
Working on VLANing our high school. My question is and it has been running through my mind for a while now but never had to ask.
We have a core Cisco switch that handles all traffic in and out of the district (internet) and to remote buildings. Off of this switch I have a layer 3 fiber switch that will be acting as the high school gateway. I have defined the VLANS and given them IPs on the high school gateway (fiber switch) so do I still need to define them on the Cisco core or just allow those VLANs to pass through on the ports that are required? This wasn't an issue before because the Cisco handled everything.
Thanks
Ed

The high school has upwards of 20 to 30 area switches which are not using VTP but our Cisco core switch is using VTP. I am trying to not over configure the switches if I don't have to.

this all depends what thing you want to do.
How many switches are used on your network?
Are you using VTP ?
