Removing DVD from drive

I have a 4 year old 13" MacBook.  I inserted a DVD in the DVD drive but am unable to eject it.  The DVD doesn't show up on the desktop.  Pushing the eject button doesn't seem to do anything. When I start up the computer you can hear the mechanism repeatedly trying to eject the disk.  What do i need to do to retrieve the disk?

is there a pin hole any where on the dvd drive? if there is one you can stick a paper clip in there and it should eject the cd if not i suggest removing the drive and then removing the cd ... if you're lucky its a removable drive ... most likely wid mac u wont  be so lucky

If you're able to find a small hole in the CD/DVD door/bezel, using an unfolded paper clip to push through the hole might be effective in ejecting the CD/DVD door.

Try rebooting while holding down the mouse button.

Here are a few more suggestions

Because the drive doesn't use a caddy and just a set of rollers to move the disk it's easier for something to phyiscally get in the way of the process.  The solution that normally works for me on this design of drive is to get a thin plastic strip and inch or two wide and try inserting that into the slot above and just towards the left of center ofwhere you think the disk should be.  This will press the disk harder onto the rolers you can hear struggling to eject and give a bit more purchase on the disc.  You might have to repeat it a couple of times until the disk moves enough to be freed up and (frustratingly) you may see it start to appear only for the mechanism to think it's actually loading and so sucks the disk back in again at the last minute!

There is no pin hole to insert the papercliip,  I only whish there was.

I tried rebooting holding the mouse button down with no success.

I tried the plastic and thought this might be the solution, but again I had no luck, even after trying it 6-7 times.  The plastic I was using is the plastic from my duplicate checks.  It tore off the back a long time ago, so that it is now 2 3/4 in wide and 6 inches longand i slip in the narrow end.  IS this to long, is it not heavy enough?  I can hear the disk trying to eject and it sound like it is hitting the side of the computer when it repeatedly tries to eject.

Try using a thin piece of plastic. Insert it under the front of the disk and lift gently as the computer is trying to eject the disk.

Something like a flat credit card (no embossing), maybe slightly thinner

I am not sure if I am under or over the DVD,  It just doesn't seem to change anything as far as what happens to the DVD ejecting.
