Sage : Unable to allocate and environment handle
Hi
We have a new installation of SBS 2011 with XP clients running Sage line 50,
all work well,
except one machine (i7 processor, with clean installation of XP and sage) which returns the above error when you try to print or run a report.
We have reinstalled sage, done all updates but still no good.
Any help much appreciated
thanks
Martin

I think the issue is going to be .NET 4
If you un install Sage 50, .Net 4 .Net3 .Net 2
and then reinstall Sage (It will reinstall .Net 2)
This should fix it.
It would be useful to know what version of Sage 50 this is as not all verison run under Win 7

Hi
Thanks for the suggestions,
Have tried above and done a complete un-install of sage, including common files etc. to no avail.
Even did a reinstall of windows just in case some files were missing then reinstalled but still no good.
Any other ideas much appreciated.
sage version is: sage 50 accounts pro 2010 , version 16.0.17.0158
XP pro with SP3
thanks

I assume that there is no MySQL involved.
At what stage do you get the crash?
More than likely it is going to be a driver/library for common component, and not Line 50 itself.
This could (and really probably is) either .NET or MSVCRT or something along these lines.

Did you uninstall .NET (v2) before reinstalling?
Notes: MySql is not involved. The issue relates to an SQL call made to the ODBC drivers when running reports. This typically is a result of an issue with .NET 2 (which is what sage uses) un-installing the various versions of .Net (You can't just un-install V2 you have to start with V4, then 3 and then 2 a tedious process)
There are a bunch of files that don't get cleaned up when un-installing. Full details of how to do a really clean reinstall are here if you need them.

Ah, so not mysql ODBC, just ODBC.
Sage did talk about doing a version of Sage 50 with a MySql back end (well a bit more than talk they had Beta code), but that got ditched a while ago now.

Hi
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
So far still no joy, having uninstalled sage and all .net versions I then reinstalled XP followed by .net and then sage, but still the same error keeps coming back!
I will give it another try later in the week and remove all traces of sage and the odbc drivers as well as .net and try installing sage first.
Is there any other way to check the .net installation, since this seems to be the likely cause?
thanks again

In the old days, Line 50 used its own file format.
If this has changed, then maybe the mysql driver should be updated.
If you can confirm that Sage Line 50 is using mysql via ODBC, then check mySQL ODBC Drivers to see if you have the latest driver.
