Windows XP system Hangs , nothing in event log
We have Lenovo m58 systems at several locations running Windows XP that seem to lock up solid after a couple weeks. No KBD or Mouse input. There is nothing in the event log that points to anything that may be causing the problem.
Does anyone know a program that we can load on the machine that will generate a log on a freeze up? Trying to get to the bottom of the problem. We have turned of power saving etc.
Thanks in advance.
First configure the machine to generate the memory dump. Refer below link
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254649
Second configure machine to generate Force dump using keyboard. Refer below link
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff545499%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
After that when machine gets hang, hold down the rightmost CTRL key, and press the SCROLL LOCK key twice.
Once the memory dump is generated, you can analyze it to find the reason for crash.

Thanks SSharma , but its XP not Win 7. Will give the MS setting a try. Any suggestions on a 3rd party program for traceing the cause when it locks?

This would open the Device Manager window. In Device Manager click Keyboard, right click on it and select properties and check under the Power Management Tab. What setting does it has
