Receive the error message "There isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings" even though the hard drive has plenty of free space.

Receive the error message "There isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings" even though the hard drive has plenty of free space (see the screenshot).

I performed a Windows Easy Transfer on a user's Windows 7 Professional computer.

Then I used the original quick restore DVD's and restored the user's computer back to its factory default settings.

Now when I try to use the Windows Easy Transfer utility to on the Windows Easy Transfer file that had been created (which is 10.3 GB in size) I get the error message "There isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings" even though the hard drive has 262 GB of free space.

I have rebooted the computer several times and have tried performing this Windows Easy Restore while logged on as the domain administrator, the local administrator, and with the user's Active Directory domain account (which has administrator rights on the local computer) and I still continue to get this error.

Also, Windows 7 Professional has already been reactivated.

What do I need to do to fix this issue so that I will be able to complete this Windows Easy Transfer restore of all of the computer's files and settings?

Hi the problem is likely that the disk you are trying to copy on to is formatted at FAT32.  FAT32 has a single file size limit of around 4GB.

You will need to format the drive as NTFS, then you will be able to copy the file on there no problem!

I checked and the drive's file system is NTFS.

What else could be causing this problem and what do I need to do to fix it?
And there was me thinking this would be an easy one!

So have you created the 10GB file, or does it want to create one on a new drive as part of the process?  It is possible that the source is using FAT32 and has to create the file locally before copying it?  Is there enough space on the source drive to deal with the file?
