CAT5e vs. CAT6

So I noticed that the ends of a CAT5e and a CAT6 are the same would it be safe to say that if I can use a cross between CAT5e and CAT6 on my network. Could I start by switching out all my CAT5e patch cables from the panel to CAT6 without any ill-affects or compatibility issues?
