we run mcafee 8.7i and also tried malware bytes and the stinger apps from mcafee, nothing was found.

Try scanning again from safe mode.  I would use malware bytes and spybot.  More than likely the machine is infected.  Do you have a proxy that might be blocking the popups when he is on the LAN?

Malwarebytes alone is not going to be enough to clean up most current malware variants. You need to run one of the 'rogue process' stoppers first - which will allow a proper scan.

"Safe Mode" scans are ineffective because not all of the Malwarebytes processes - nor all of the malware processes will be running.

You can post a HijackThis log and that might help

May be router is infected. Check the great article below from RPG that may be helpful too.

I've had a lot of luck with GMER for tricky rootkits / malware that doesn't show up elsewhere
