CUPS custom backend script

I'm trying to get a custom script to run on RHEL 5.  I have enabled the FileDevice directive in the cups.conf file, created a script file (file) in the backend dir with exec permissions, created a printer using "lpadmin -p print2file -E -v file:/tmp/print2file".  I have searched google and found several hits but I still cannot seem to get it to run the script.  I have also tried calling another script from within.  I have used the print2file and print2dir scripts that I had seen on another website but it still did not work.  Something else that is questionable is when I issue the lpinfo -v command, it doesn't show the custom backend, just the normal default ones.  Thanks for any help.

Maybe this product is a source of inspiration...
    http://www.cups-pdf.de/documentation.shtml

Just specifying a desitination is not sufficient for cups, it also need to known what driver etc. to use.
Maybe configuration through the webinterface is better:

I was able to get to the cups documentation link but I have already looked through much of the documentation.  I wasn't able to open the second link.  I have already solved this issue but thanks for following up.

thanks

cups-pdf is not exactly CUPS, it is a backend to produce PDF output files somewhere, just like the driver you mention.

THe 2nd link is on your local site. If you are working  on the console of the serverver the url is
http://localhost:631/

If you your cups is on a printserver  named donald-duck.example.com then:
use  https://donald-duck.example.com:631/ to access it.
