i am wanting to add a link in my site so that someone can add it to their desktop.

example: click here = adds http://google.com link to the website.

instead of adding it to their favorites or bookmarks

i am creating this so that clients can go straight to the support page of a website.

thanks

it can't be done with javascript alone - the browser won't allow it..  You could simply give users instructions to drag the link to the desktop - it will create a short cut - in windows anyway - haven't tested Mac or Linux
You are asking a lot.  Most browsers, due to security issues, do not allow that much access to the client's computer.  In order to do this you would need access to the client's Windows Registry (a BIG security breach.)  The only way I could envision this happening is by creating a downloadable exe that you client would have to download and execute.

thanks. i knew about the drag to desktop - may be my only option.

i will ask another option on creating an .exe file.

did not think it is far to ask another question inside a question for the same points.

No, setting up an exe to do that would be another question.  Thanks for the points!
