Act was working fine. Now when the machine starts up (and when Act starts) I get ths very long message that makes no sense to me.

Not exactly sure what the fix is for this error but I have ran into many times in the past with ACT hosing up after a windows update. I would check if any were installed the night before this error started appearing. If so start uninstalling them one by one til hopefully it works.

Are you able to give me slightly more detailed instructions on doing this. I have never previously uninstalled updates.

None worked.

Did you do "manually rebuild ACT! preferences" with ACT! closed?

What full version/build of ACT! - from Help | About?
What operating system?
What anti-virus?
Are you sharing the database (lan or sync)?

Nice when someone says they've tried it all that I can usually guess which one they left out ;-)

I am actually in Centennial Park (next to Paddington). Why?
