I have this malicious page called "http://start.facemoods.com/?a=vsl" that tries to start when I open firefox and it freezes firefox. It must have inserted itself in the default startup page.
How can I remove this?

Open Firefox while disconnected from internet access. Open Tools > Options and change it. Alternately, you can change it in the registry, just search for the URL

On my computer, the home page setting is in my profile in 'prefs.js' in:

user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://www.yourhome.com/");

Edit that file with a Text editor like Notepad.  Word will corrupt it.

Disconnecting from the internet does not work, it still freezes!

Can you tell me more where to find this file?

On XP it is:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\v1pjmbs6.default\prefs.js

where 'v1pjmbs6' is your current profile.  Windows may have moved this to 'Users' on Vista and Windows 7.
