Memory Identify/Configuration
Are there any boot cd's open source/or commercial I can get that I can use to boot up a workstation/server that will identify what memory is installed in it the dimm configuration etc..
something like crucial.com memory scanner etc..

CPU-z does this from windows. Memtest86 is a boot cd program that tells you. It comes alone or on the gparted boot cd or many other boot CDs.
It's not bootable, but HWiNFO is a terrific piece of software (and free!) that gives you lots of hardware info, including the memory config:

You can use server own tools. For hp servers there is Insight diagnostics. Start > program files > hp system tools > hp system management homepage > insight diagnostics
For other vendors there are tools , please check out the respective vendor website. those tools will display configuration information.

The server is running esx 4.0 so I don't have any hp tools installed most tools you guys suggested will work however they are not bootable Im just trying to avoid having to open the server
