HI

I want to know if there is any option where we can check complete access history about the Particular File i.e. we want to find the following details of File

1. When it was opened......
2. When it was modified-

(if there are multiple changes done  at multiple time then multiple dates with time)

By default when we check property of any file it shows only Created Date & last Modified Or Saved date. We want complete Time stamp.....is it possible any ways in Windows XP ?

Dear nitinkrjain,

what you can do is enable file audit in Windows Server 2003.
Please refer to the Micosoft KB814595 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814595 and/or
the TechNet article "Operation-based auditing on files or folders" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738931(WS.10).aspx

With those, you will be able to monitor both '1' and '2' you mention.

Kind regards,
Soren

Thanks for your reply.
I forgot to mention few more things, The system is on windows 2008 domain & file exists locally on the system, which is a Windows XP SP3 machine.

I want to see the particular files data, when the changes were made in the past.
Can i see these details of already modified files, or it will show the details after modification of Auditing policy.

The auditing can only audit the files from the start of you auditing process.
See a detailed description of enabling auditing in windows server 2008 on this page.
