.NET: Referencing a public user control designer class from a base class

Hello Experts,

I have a basePage class from some add-in code I'm trying to deploy in my application, which I don't understand how it's working. In this basePage class, which is inherited by a web page, there's a reference to a public class defined in a ascx.designer.vb page. In the test site I'm trying to copy it from, the reference is understood by the UDE, but when I try to import it to my solution, it appears, as I would guess, that you can't reference a public class in a designer code behind file for a user control that's obviously not in the App_Code directory. Can anyone tell me how you get a class NOT in the App_Code directory to be referenced elsewhere on the site?

Thanks
