Error Re-installing CAS in Exchange 2010

I have uninstalled CAS in exchange 2010 to resolve an issue i am having with OWA, the uninstall went fine but when i go to reinstall through control panel / program / program features i get an error and it fails. I have also tried from the DVD and from a fresh download of Exchange 2010 SP1 from Microsoft.

Below is the error.

I have read a lot of posts and they are for 2007 and say to reinstall with the lastest server pack but SP1 is the latest for Exchange 2010.

did you format and reinstall the box (fresh install) or have you just uninstalled Exchange Cas Role and you now trying to readd it..

If its the latter, it could be a number of things, references in registry still exist, try deleting/renaming the ExchangeSetup logs and reattempt..

Try with following steps:

1. Uninstall IIS components and reboot the server
2. Rename Inetpub folder and also check Inetsrv in C:\Windows\Inetsrv, please rename this as well.
3. Reinstall IIS components and reboot the server. Make sure both inetpub and inetsrv folders are re-created.
4. Start re-installing Exchange server.

to fix this i uninstalled all exchange updates, restarted the server and then tried again.

i took me ages to figure this one out but removing all the updates and trying again fixed the issue.
