I have several desktop applications requiring different versions of IE. One can not use greater than IE6 the new one must be at least IE8. Can I deploy MS VM and toggle between the two desktop applications running on separate VM instances? The desktops are dual processors, 4GB, and Windows 7.
Thanks

You can use VMware Workstation in Unity Mode, and run different versions of IE from different versions of the Windows.

You could also try IE Collections which installs Multiple versions of IE, on the same PC, for use at the same time.

Release Notes:
Internet Explorer is a browser developed by Microsoft. Windows Internet Explorer (formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer) is based on the Trident render engine.

Utilu IE Collection contains multiple IE versions, which are standalone so they can be used at the same time.

Conditional Comments work exactly the same as in the native versions. The original version number is shown correcty in the User Agent string. The version number can be found in the window title too.

Utilu IE Collection also includes the Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar 1.00.2188.0. This Explorer Bar provides a variety of tools which make troubleshooting websites easier. The Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar is compatible with Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher when using Windows 2000 or higher.

Utilu IE Collection has the option to install the Firebug Web Development Extension for Internet Explorer. Firebug provides a lot of useful tools which make web development easier.

The user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want. You can also make an unattended installation.

Utilu IE Collection fully supports upgrading, so there is no need to uninstall a previous version before installing a newer version: just install the newer version on top of the currently installed version with the same or more components selected.

Microsoft, Windows and Internet Explorer are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. Internet Explorer is free, but you may only use it if you have a valid Windows license.

I'd rather recommend VMware Player and not workstation, as that is free and cam do what you need too. One thing though is if you run multiple Windows on your PC is that you need licenses for each. So in my point of view it is probably better to use the IE collections mentioned by hanccocka. The performance would also be better as you wouldn't need to run a complete OS underneath.
