Advice before restoring my Mac Snow Leopard from CD

I corruped a config file and have been advised to restore fom the original disks. I do have an external 1T drive and have been using TimeMachine.

What advice can you offer me before I take the plunge and un restore? I got the PC a month ago and have installed a few programs. Should I expect any type of configuration to change in the process, for example?

Thanks.

Yes, I do not understand why the guy told me the restore disks were superior. I think from a support standpoint, the CD's represent a known working version. So I agree the TimeMachine version reflected my system before I messed it up.

Thanks, that solves this problem from a different angle.
Thanks.
