ssd randomly stopped working

my ssd randomly died.  Prior to this it would sometimes freeze.. and even not be recognized sometimes when i restart. but as far as I could tell it was just the sata cable coming loose.. I think when it heated it would expand and not get a good connection and it was more likely this would occur.  Usually wasnt much of an issue .. restarting usually worked.  However this weekend I came back after being gone for 2 days and the computer was on.. I was able to move the mouse but everything else was frozen so I restarted.   I havent been able to boot to that disk since.

Luckily I just made a back up about a week ago.. but I still would like to try to get it working to get up to date data off it.  Any suggestions?

Download an Ubuntu LiveCD.  It can mount a windows NTFS (I assume that is what you are running) SSD, and then you can copy them to an external USB stick, or ftp them, whatever..

Or if you have somebody else with a working system, plug the SSD into that.

Then you are screwed.  Sorry.  There are some data recovery firms that can take them apart, and hopefully it is the controller chip or something inexpensive ... but figure $500+

make/model of SSD, might well be a bug, for example Intel SSD 320 turn into useless 8MB devices when they lose power unexpectedly.

Thanks Nobus, I am going to look into those companies.  I tried one already and they quoted $1800... thats a bit too much!

I am willing to pay $500 . but hopefully less.
