Access ODBC connection - does it work with online SQL Server 2008 database

In Access 2010 I have managed to communicate with an online SQL Server Express 2008 database using VBA. Is it possible to do this without code using the ODBC functionality in Access

what do you mean by "online"? sql data must by online anyway if youre to connect to it.
and anyway, yes. as long as you can connect to it, you can use linked tables to access

Yes, as long as you have the IP or host address of the server and the port (1433) and user credentials, you can create a DSN connection for test and further usage.

If you prefer, you can also use a DSN-less connection, that's a matter of preferences.
