Hello

We have recently migrated our OS from 5.3 to 6.1, On couple of our servers we are not able to get a complete system dump. I have checked the size and permissions of the dump devices, They were all good. I have also attached an output from the error report. Can someone help me out taking a complete system dump without an error in the error log.

Thanks

Hi,

DUMP STATUS -3 is equivalent to LED Code 0C5, which means:

Dump crashed or did not start, the dump failed because of an internal error.

There is not much you can do in the aftermath, because such an error is usually caused by a hardware failure or by memory corruption, such as overwriting kernel data areas.

The ususal thing to do here is calling support!

IBM have developed a document which could assist you in
"provid[ing] some additional information on a failed dump before contacting IBM support, to speed up analysis."

Please have a look at it here:

By the way, if you enabled the new "firmware-assisted" dump method of AIX 6.1 (check with "sysdumpdev") it could be worth a try switching back to "traditional" ("sysdumpdev -t traditional") and re-running "sysdumpstart".
