Unable to type Chinese characters in PowerPoint 2007

I have a client who recently added a language bar. Since then, he is unable to type any chinese characters in Powerpoint 2007. This client can type Chinese characters in other MS Office applications though; just not Powerpoint.

Troubleshooting so far: ran Microsoft Office Scrub to remove and reinstall MS Office, checked east language pack, removed and re-added Chinese language in Powerpoint.
