SCR copy status "Initializing"

kam_uk used Ask the Experts™

We have Exchange 2007 SP3 SCC clusters running Windows 2008 Server, they have an SCR target each in our DR data center.

An example is ExchMBX1 CMS which has an SCR target of DR1.

We had weekend maintenance on DR this weekend, it was supposed to be off for about 2 hours whilst h/w was replaced but it ended up being powered off for most of the weekend and Monday morning.

When it was powered on eventually, the SCR copy status is still in INITIALIZING status.

Can someone explain what this actually means?

If the number of transaction logs to be replicated to the target becomes too great, it is considered to be diverged and replication cannot continue. This happened in your case because your target was offline for an extended period of time. What you need to do is reseed the target. Bah, I meant to ask - would it have been better to suspend the SCR copy before the weekend or would this not have made a difference?
It wouldn't make a difference.
