I renamed a VM client on VMware server 2 and that did not change the actual folder name in Windows.  If I rename the Folder, would that effect the VM by any means?

Renaming the virtual machine, just changes the VM name, it will not change the folder name or virtual files.

remove from the inventory, rename folder, and then add to inventory, if you change the virtual machine disk file names, you will also need to edit vmx and vmdk files as well to reflect vmdk filename changes.
