FTP not working in Firefox

Hi All

I am trying to get an ftp listing in firefox for the server at work.  It works in:
- Google Chrome
- Internet Explorer
- Windows File Explorer

But not Firefox... :-|

This computer is fresh, Windows XP installed 3 days ago and upgraded to SP3.  Only other progams installed are Office 2003 professional (full), VLC (opensource multimedia player) & Skype.

FTP works for other sites... e.g. on the internet.

are you just opening up firefox and typing in the address bar ftp.somewhere.com or did you click on tools> Fireftp and have it open  up in ist own tab?
See how Passive FTP is set in Firefox and compare it to the same setting in IE and Chrome. You might try setting (or unsetting) Passive to try the other setting (Active). ... Thinkpads_User

Hi thinkspads_user... option is not availabe in firefox.  I did find it in the firefox plugin fireftp...  problem is that most of our users use firefox, installing fireftp and subsequent config (not to mention the unfamiliar user interface) will be beyond most of our users :-(
For the most part, the default Use Passive FTP works, so maybe the Firefox writers just never put it in.

Next question might end up being - how do I change the server ftp to the other mode... will take a look at that.  Thanks for your help.
First, thank you for the points. I am pleased to help out.  Then, the server mode FTP may want Active to be set because it does not want anonymous connections. I refer you to Slacksite and then by all means ask another question.

ahhh, yes that would be a good reason to keep settings as is. many thanks.  I think this is a gross oversight by firefox, my options seem limited to instruction my users to access via another browser!
