Suggest that you reboot in safe mode (if possible), download the dump file as a posting attachment, and request a dump analysis.

How do I download the dump file?

Reboot into safe mode with network support.  Look in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.  There should be a dump file for the date and time the system failed, per Microsoft KB315263:

"Windows gives each file a distinct, date-encoded file name. For example, Mini022900-01.dmp is the first memory dump file that was generated on February 29, 2000."

Open a browser.  Navigate back to EE and this discussion.  Add a comment.  Click the "File" option below the comment window.  This allows attaching a copy of the dump file.

Alternatively, if you can't get a browser to run from safe mode, write the dump file to a USB stick, take it to another system, and submit it from there.

Depends the message you receive in the blue screen, It could be: a hard drive damage fixed by running chkdsk c: /p /r,and after it finishes, run fixmbr and fixboot and problem solved (this is a very common issue in windows XP).

Malware can also produce this error run Malwarebytes full scan.

It could also be a dirty memory stick solved by cleaning it and placing it back..

On Mon 8/8/2011 8:35:14 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Mini080811-01.dmp
uptime: 06:40:38
This was probably caused by the following module: aswsp.sys (aswSP+0x1E27C)
Bugcheck code: 0x1000008E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFFFFF8053BA08, 0xFFFFFFFFA83A04A8, 0x0)
Error: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: aswsp.sys .
Google query: aswsp.sys KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M

Bottom line here is that Avast aswsp.sys caused the crash.  The file may be corrupted or you could be one of the many others posting this BSOD issue all over the internet.  Google BSOD aswsp.sys

I got 32,700 results in 0.3 seconds.  Some see this after an update of the Avast program.

You may want to consider a different internet security / anti virus program.
