I just ran into this very issue not an hour ago.<br />

Turn on automatic updates. &nbsp;Wait. &nbsp;Automatic Updates will download an unlikely update that deals with download compression. &nbsp;After installing and rebooting, Windows Update operates normally.<br />

Ok...Automatic updates were on...I'll let it sit overnnight and see what<br />
I got in the morning...<br />

Also, I did notice that it did do 2 updates...B898461 and a ServicePackUninstall...<br />

Let it sit overnight...BUT I didn't reboot...Rebooted this morning...and <br />
HERE THEY COME...!!!<br />
KB898461 and a reboot did the trick...<br />

Rebuilt a laptop...<br />
My XP OEM cd is SP1...installed that...<br />
Then installed SP2 from a CD...<br />
Then installd SP3 from a CD....<br />

When I go to windows update...I get re-directed to a Microsoft site telling me that I may not be able to update because my computer does not have the latest updates...<br />

Rebuilt a laptop...
My XP OEM cd is SP1...installed that...
Then installed SP2 from a CD...
Then installd SP3 from a CD....
