Windows 7 printer and devices not showing anything

I have no devices or printers showing in the devices and printers folder in the control panel.
I have done everything I could find here to resolve it., that I could, and what I could google.

I can print fine, and I have no expectations in device manager. I have also restored back before my last updates and nothing helped..

The only thing I can see that might be the problem is when I print something there are several copies of the same printer in the drop down box. And I have no clue how to remove them without them showing up in the devices and printers folder..

Help would be great, I spent an entire day trying to solve this..

Is it work for you:
Start -> Run -> printmanagement.msc
Just a thought.

I would check the status of the Print Spooler Service.

Click on the Start button and select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate Print Spooler in the list. Check that it has started and that the StartUp type is Automatic.

I suspect that it may have stopped and that just starting it will not solve the problem.

You may need to show hidden files. Type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Now access Windows Explorer and select c:\windows\system32\spool\printers. Normally this folder should be empty but there is a problem when files with “spl” and “shd” extensions stick there. Delete the files and restart your computer. This might resolve your problem.

I have spent the night trying all of the above solutions and none worked, I removed all printers, installed them.. And restated my computer so many times I have lost count.

So I hope someone has some more ideas..

Thanks you for your time and knowledge..

Operating system might be corrupted...try repair install

Boot to desktop...insert the windows 7 disc...launch setup...click upgrade option....this will repair your windows install... complete the repair install.

You will not loose any data or programs during the repair install process

Check printer and devices.

If u are getting the error that the installed version is newer then ..it seems u have sp1 installed.

Two ways to resolve it.

First backup the system on an external hard drive...then uninstall service pack 1...and then perform repair.

Can also try to slipstream service pack 1 and then peform repair....but in this case i have seen windows 7 is not able to integrate service pack 1...but still try it.

Backup all data before performing any step...
