Name resolution on local network
Hi,
I have a home network on which I would like to have automatic name resolution, so I don't have to type in ip-addresses anymore.
Configuration: router, wireless access point, Synology NAS, some Windows 7 pc's, an ESX-server with some vm's on it.
I could setup a domain but would like to be able to resolve names without being dependend on a domain controller. If I would join all pc's to a domain, everything would fall appart when my domain controller would be down, that's something I would like to avoid. I would like to have a hassle free, little maintenance network.
Now my NAS is running 24/7, I could run bind but haven't looked further into it since I don't know if it's worth all the trouble (it's quite some configuration).
Thanks for any tips on "how should I setup automatic name resolution (for router, access point, nas, esx, vm's ...).
